How well do you know the couple next door? Or your husband? Or even—yourself?
People are capable of almost anything. . .
A domestic suspense debut about a young couple and their apparently friendly neighbors—a twisty, rollercoaster ride of lies, betrayal, and the secrets between husbands and wives. . .
Anne and Marco Conti seem to have it all—a loving relationship, a wonderful home, and their beautiful baby, Cora. But one night when they are at a dinner party next door, a terrible crime is committed. Suspicion immediately focuses on the parents. But the truth is a much more complicated story.
Inside the curtained house, an unsettling account of what actually happened unfolds. Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they’ve kept for years.
What follows is the nerve-racking unraveling of a family—a chilling tale of deception, duplicity, and unfaithfulness that will keep you breathless until the final shocking twist.
When I start a thriller I always have a tiny fear in the back of my mind. Too often, thrillers are being compared to THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN or GONE GIRL. With that kind of comparison I’m always let down when the book isn’t even close to similar. Because of that reason I don’t read any reviews or even the synopsis if I can.
For THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR I read the synopsis and managed to start without reading any early reviews. And I am so glad I did. I went in with no expectations except a good, dark, story. And it definitely was!
Marco and Anne go to the neighbor’s house for a dinner part. When they arrive back home they discover a horrible crime! As the story unfolds we learn that the couple may or may not be innocent. And that they are both harboring secrets from each other that could make them appear guilty.
THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR is told in multiple POV’s. The writing is definitely different than what I’ve read lately. The sentences are short, choppy and precise, giving the story an eerie feel. It also had short chapters, which I absolutely love! I feel like the short chapters pushed the story forward at a fast pace, allowing me to stay completely enthralled with every part of the story.
This book definitely kept me guessing and wondering where the story was going to go. When I finished I just closed the book and had to sit and compose myself before I wrote a review. I really loved THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR, and I can’t wait to see what this author comes out with next!
