After the shocking revelations of the previous book, Bitter Bite, the world of Ashland’s become even more sinister, and Gin Blanco (aka Ashland’s most fearsome assassin, the Spider) no longer knows who—or what—she can count on. Only one thing is for certain: danger and new enemies await Gin inUnraveled, Book 15 in the New York Times bestselling Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series thatRT Book Reviews calls “unbeatable entertainment!”
What could go wrong when you’re trying to unravel a decades-old conspiracy?
As the current queen of the Ashland underworld, you would think that I, Gin Blanco, would know all about some secret society controlling things from behind the scenes. I might be the Spider, the city’s most fearsome assassin, but all my Ice and Stone elemental magic hasn’t done me a lick of good in learning more about “the Circle”. Despite my continued investigations, the trail’s gone as cold as the coming winter.
So when Finnegan Lane, my foster brother, gets word of a surprising inheritance, we figure why not skip town for someplace less dangerous for a few days? That place: Bullet Pointe, a fancy hotel resort complex plus Old West theme park that Finn now owns lock, stock, and barrel. At first, all the struttin’ cowboys and sassy saloon girls are just hokey fun. But add in some shady coincidences and Circle assassins lurking all around, and vacationing becomes wilder—and deadlier—than any of us expected.
Good thing this assassin brought plenty of knives to the gunfight …
Unraveled by Jennifer Estep is excellent. This is the second Elemental Assassin book that I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing, and I loved every minute of it. The books in this series are classified as urban fantasy, which happens to be one of my new favorite genres.
Gin Blanco and her step brother, Finnegan Lane are recovering from havoc wreaked at the hands of Deidre Shaw and Hugh Tucker (in the previous novel, Bitter Bite). Gin, an elemental assassin and queen of the underworld is on the hunt. She recently found out that her mother belonged to a secret society. She is plagued with dreams of her mother and sisters and needs to learn more about this organization. Who are the members? What part did they play in her mother’s murder?
In the meantime, Finn becomes the owner of a cheesy western theme park and luxury hotel, Bullet Pointe Resort, a gift given to him by his long lost mother. In need of a relaxing vacation, he convinces Gin, Bria and Owen to tour the theme park with him. Gin is skeptical about this gift from Finn’s mother and the upcoming vacation but is a good sport about it. She is hopeful that the resort will uncover some of the mysteries about the secret society.
Gin immediately knows that something is up at the theme park; someone is watching them from one of the hotel windows. Then she meets Roxy, a fire elemental and realizes that they were lured to Bullet Pointe Resort but isn’t quite sure why or by whom (although she has her suspicions).
They aren’t at the theme park for long before all hell breaks loose. Gunfire, knife fights, and elemental assassin powers make for fabulous, quick paced action and fun. The story is exciting and I love the characters. I can’t wait to read the next novel in this series.
