When a glamorous family of teenage witches brings a mysterious new girl into their fold, they unwittingly nurture a powerful black magic that could destroy them all. This paranormal YA fantasy features intrigue, spells, and a devastating twist. In The Graces, the first rule of witchcraft states that if you want something badly enough, you can get it . . . no matter who has to pay.
Everyone loves the Graces. Fenrin, Thalia, and Summer Grace are captivating, wealthy, and glamorous. They’ve managed to cast a spell over not just their high school but also their entire town—and they’re rumored to have powerful connections all over the world. If you’re not in love with one of them, you want to be them. Especially River: the loner, new girl at school. She’s different from her peers, who both revere and fear the Grace family. She wants to be a Grace more than anything. But what the Graces don’t know is that River’s presence in town is no accident.
This fabulously addictive fantasy combines sophisticated and haunting prose with a gut-punching twist that readers will be dying to discuss. Perfect for fans of We Were Liars as well as nostalgic classics likeBuffy the Vampire Slayer and the 1996 movie The Craft, The Graces marks the beginning of a new wave of teen witches.
The Graces are a prominent family, who have lived in the small seaside town for generations. They are aloof, only letting others enter their “inner” circle for short periods of time. Everyone loves the Graces; they also envy and fear them. The Graces are witches, or so the townsfolk say.
Fenrin and Thalia are twins. Fenrin is gorgeous and as arrogant as they come. He can date any girl he wants, and has, but he has yet to find what he is truly looking for. Thalia is beautiful with a style all her own. All of the girls try to emulate her, without success. Summer is the youngest Grace. Dressed in all black, she is outspoken and confident.
River is new in town and has heard all of the rumors about the Graces. River wants to be a Grace, and she knows the best way to capture someone’s attention is to ignore them. Her plan works. Summer invites her to join a group of girls outside the schoolyard, and River gets her first experience with magic. It wasn’t quite what she expected, and then, Thalia finds them and interferes with their spell.
Summer and River become close friends, something that is not typical of the Graces. Summer is even invited to the Graces’ home. But River still has secrets. River is in love with Fenrin, but nobody knows. And no one knows why she and her mother moved to this new town. Will her secrets destroy her or bring her closer to the Graces?
The Graces by Laure Eve is a beautifully written story with dynamic characters, an interesting plot, and an unexpected ending. I was drawn into the story immediately because I love books with magic and mystery and could not put it down because of my curiosity about the characters. Are the Graces really witches? Why is River so desperate to belong to them? Of course my questions were answered, only to be replaced by new ones. Now, I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
