Shadow Girl started out a little slow for me but once I got into it, I had to finish it.  I didn’t read the first novel in the Afton Tangler Series which could explain my initial struggle to get into this book.

The novel starts with an explosion in which a plane carrying a donor heart for a wealthy businessman is shot down.  Leland Odin, founder of a home-shopping network has millions, but his money can’t save his life.  The culprits are identified to the reader at the beginning of the story, making this less of a thriller and more of a detective novel.  With that being said, unexpected twists increase the intensity of the novel making it interesting and engaging to the reader.

Family liaison officer Afton Tangler and Detective Max Montgomery make a great team.  Afton Tangler wants to move up to a detective position and throws herself into this investigation hoping to gain more experience.  She is quick on her feet and intelligent, but her eagerness to solve the case puts her at risk numerous times.

I am interested to see where the author goes with Afton Tangler in future novels and am also curious about how her partnership with detective Montgomery will evolve.
